About us

Celtic Leathers is owned and operated by Sam Fitzgerald. Sam has been making racing leathers for over 20 years, firstly in Ramsey on the Isle of Man, and now in Mangatainoka, in the Wairarapa district of New Zealands North Island.

Mangatainoka also happens to be the home of one of New Zealands oldest breweries, Tui Brewery. A coincidence? Well, we wouldn't like to comment.

In his spare time Sam and his wife Kaye are raising two lovely daughters and two lambs, wrangling two horses and a menagerie of cats. Sam is a Senior Firefighter in the Pahiatua volunteer Fire Brigade and also likes to get out and about on his RMX125 MX bike and his mountain bike.

Over the years, Sam and Celtic Leathers have become synonymous with the Isle of Man TT and Manx GP events. Many of the leading racers have used, and still use Celtic Leathers to keep them safe, even to the point of having him copy their 'sponsored' brand leathers.

Sam and Celtic Leathers are now bringing to New Zealand motorcycle road racing new and improved standards of quality, protection, service and professionalism. Celtic Leathers has already attracted one of New Zealands leading Superbike racers (Hayden Fitzgerald, no relation) and has a growing clientele among the smaller bike classes including New Zealands newest racing school (Moto Academy NZ). Sam is now offering on the spot leather repairs at race meetings at Manfeild Park and elsewhere during the season.

Being situated in New Zealand is no impediment to being able to offer the same quick, quality and professional service to which the c ustomers of Celtic Leathers have become accustomed.
