Garment Specifications

All of our garments are made to your individual requirements.

Our designs provide you with the Protection you need, the Fit you desire and the Quality you deserve.

Leather

Our leather is cowhide that is painstakingly sourced from tanneries around the world so that it provides superior suppleness and abrasion resistance. We use hides at 1.3 mm and 1.5 mm thick depending on the application.

All garments have double layers of leather in the following areas:

Shoulder: across onto the top arm

Elbow: above the elbow bend and down the outside sleeve to the wrist

Hip: front of hip and right around the seat to the other hip

Knee: front of knee and down the shin, finishing at the boots. Triple layers of leather are placed on the front of the knees.

Thread
All seams are stitched using heavy-duty continuous filament core-spun nylon

Seams

Most seams have triple stitching, but high-risk areas have complex seams with 4-5 rows of stitching and leather tape reinforcement

Lining & other materials
All garments are fully lined using polyester mesh fabric known as Airtex®. The linings in Celtic Leathers are not removable.

Stretch Kevlar-composite textile, known as Keprotec® is used at the back of the knees, at the calves, the groin area, underarm, elbow and the forearm. This provides a comfortable fit. Keprotec is made from a mixture of high technology polymers and includes Kevlar (35%) and Lycra (15%). At the present time it is only available in black.

Armour
We only use 6.2mm Astrosorb® elastomer impact absorbing armour in Celtic Leathers. We believe that the benefits of soft, impact absorbing armour far outweighs any cost disadvantage and the serious disadvantages of hard, shell-type armour.

Lettering and logos
We are able to replicate most lettering, logos or designs that you can make, either in leather or embroidered patches. Please provide us with a picture or sample and we will let you know if it can be done.
